Tybee Threw A Fit!
Tybee Island threw a humongous fit, just in time for the holiday weekend. Voted one of the world’s fittest beaches two years in a row, the little island that could lived up to its name on June 3 with a gigantic fitness event.
Held from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion, hundreds joined in the classes offered by Olympic trainer Michael Banks, of BodybyBanks.com and Drew and Shazi Edmonds, of Train Me 24/7 – the same team that helped Savannah native and Style Network reality star Rudy Gettinger lose nearly 200 pounds.

Hands Across the Sand
Beach lovers and tourists joined hands with environmentalists at noon Saturday to build a human boom on Tybee Island against drilling for oil off the U. S. coast. Many came to show their outrage over the Gulf oil spill. Carol Coney, an Atlanta travel agent, shared the sentiments of many who came, “As soon as I heard about the horrible BP oil spill, I got on the Internet to see what I could do to help. I found “Hands Across the Sand” and followed their lead on actions being taken across the country and the world.”
Hands Across the Sand is an organization formed in February by Seaside, Florida resident Dave Rauschkolb in response to President Obama’s announcement to expand offshore oil drilling. Rauschkold has seen his association expand internationally. And on July 26, in over 900 communities all over the world, thousands joined hands against offshore drilling.
