Over 30 restaurants, 500 guests and one mechanical bull helped make DineSouth 2011 the greatest food event in Savannah to date. Famous foodie Jamie Deen and his family hosted the party, while a pack of farm animals, provided by The Hunter Cattle Co., helped partygoers get in the mood for a true Southern soiree. The event was also the release of South’s Food and Famous Folks Issue, which covers some of the most interesting people and culinary artists in the city. David Tutera, celebrity wedding stylist and host of the hit TV show My Fair Wedding, came to Tybee Island for a few days to meet with some truly excited Southern brides-to-be and other adoring fans. During his time on the coast, among other events, he attended a VIP soirée at the newly opened Tybee Wedding Chapel, at which dozens of local caterers, florists and other wedding vendors brought out their finest fare and wares for display. During the event, Tutera also met with some local engaged couples offering the lucky ones a bit of advice for their big day. The following day, he greeted and spoke to hundreds of locals who were all ready to hear some inspiring styling advice straight from the expert himself. South magazine was able to catch up with Tutera at the events, and you can check out everything he had to say in the upcoming October/November Issue! Fire spinners, aerial artists and go-go dancers greeted Savannahians as they filled Avia Hotel on Thursday night for the release of South’s magazine’s Fourth Annual Hot Issue. Guest also mingled with the winners of this year’s Hottest Singles of the South contest, enjoyed some fantastic fare prepared by executive chef Mark Krystopa, and flipped through the brand new issue!

Last Saturday, July 16, 16 women of, Savannah Harley Davidson and Savannah Hooter’s participated in a friendly “battle of the babes” championship that ended in messy condiment covered beauties. The parking lot between the two establishments served as the battlegrounds as they competed in nine events from “mayonnaise musical chairs”, to a “hotdog eating contest”, and even tug of war over a condiment filled kids pool. While the spicy ladies of Hooter’s took and early lead, the rough riding ladies of Savannah Harley Davidson pulled it out a victory in the end.

The latest trend in getting fit is Latin-inspired, dance-infused Zumba. Georige Abel of Lava Fitness takes South’s Heather Myrick through an upbeat, cardio-driven class that does more than give you a great work out. Abel explains that Zumba is about having fun and finding your own style. If you’re hesitant about taking the dance class, take a look at our video and see what’s in store.

Last March, Beth Scoggin was officially crowned the 2011 Miss Savannah Harley-Davidson. She went up against twenty-four other ladies in swimwear and “harley-wear” for a variety of prizes, including a spot in the Harley-Davidson St. Patty’s Day float. All proceeds from this event benefited the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

South magazine had the amazing pleasure of covering SCAD fashion show and the after party. With guests like Diane Von Furstenberg, Andre Leon Talley and Zac Posen, to name a few, the night was filled with fashion and fun! Check out the exclusive coverage of the night!
