Savannah Derby Devils Are Rocking The South
The Savannah Derby Devils are gearing up for an action packed bout against the Richland County Regulators this Saturday, August 27th at the Savannah Civic Center. The Savannah Derby Devils formed in 2006 during a nationwide resurgence of roller derby and have continued to grow in numbers, skill and in its understanding of this developing sport. They play by the Women’s Flat-Track Derby Association rules, and are a member of the U.S. Association of Roller Sports. The game is played with 14 players from each team on the track in a pack formation. One player from each team hangs back as the pack begins to skate, these players are called the jammers. When the pack is 20 feet across the starting line, the jammers begin skating. A jammer’s goal is to skate through the pack, and lap the pack as many times as she can, which is how points are earned.

Hurricane Preparation Beyond the Bottled Water
Hurricane season is upon us once again, and this one came out swinging. With Irene charging toward the East Coast, talk of hurricane preparedness is everywhere. According to the latest models, the Savannah Area is out of Irene’s projected path, and all we should see is some heavy rainfall throughout the weekend. When faced with the possibility of a hurricane, we hear the same sage advice from our local news networks. Filling up our vehicles with gas, buying an ample supply of bottled water and non-perishable foods, and locating and protecting important family documents are all great ideas, and are imperative to riding out the storm. After the basic survival precautions are taken, there are several other ways to protect yourself during the storm, whether or not you choose to evacuate.
