Dinesouth 2011: And the winners are…

Over 30 restaurants, 500 guests and one mechanical bull helped make DineSouth 2011 the greatest food event in Savannah to date. Famous foodie Jamie Deen and his family hosted the party, while a pack of farm animals, provided by The Hunter Cattle Co., helped partygoers get in the mood for a true Southern soiree. The event was also the release of South’s Food and Famous Folks Issue, which covers some of the most interesting people and culinary artists in the city. Make sure to grab your copy on newsstands now!

As part of the event, all the vendors competed against each other in three different categories and here are the official results:

The Junior League of Savannah’s sixty-forth annual Junior League Thrift Sale will be held September 23rd and 24th at the Savannah Civic Center. This year’s event is sponsored by our community partners; SunTrust Bank, Savannah Bank, and Savannah Land Trust.

Admission is $5 on Friday and $3 on Saturday. Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased at the Savannah Civic Center’s box office or online at www.etix.com. Children under 2 are admitted free. No strollers or carts are permitted. Items sold on Saturday are half-price. All sales are cash only. Parking is free. For more information about the event, please visit www.jrleaguesav.org.

Thrift Sale merchandise is donated by League members and supporters and varies each year. Shoppers can find appliances, electronics, children’s clothing and toys, home and holiday decor, books, accessories, house wares, linens, furniture and more. Again this year the Sale will offer new-in-the-box merchandise and high quality items such as crystal, china, jewelry, and designer goods in the JL Boutique.

With this two day event, the League raises over $100,000 dollars, which are returned to the community through various League projects as well as training our members. The Junior League’s current focus area is Women and Children’s Advocacy. The Junior League of Savannah believes that women and children deserve to be empowered through quality opportunities in order to thrive and to be contributing members of our community. These opportunities should develop the whole person socially, emotionally, physically as well as academically. They are currently partnering with a number of local organizations such as the West Broad YMCA, and Memorial Health Children’s Unit.
In addition, the Junior League serves the Golden Isles and South Carolina Low Country areas, and members there will work on various education-related projects. The Junior League of Savannah and the Thrift Sale are sponsored by SunTrust.

The Junior League of Savannah is an organization of over 1,000 women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. For information, call Junior League of Savannah Headquarters at 912-790-1002 or visit www.jrleaguesavannah.org.
