Come join us at Meddin Studios where TEDxCreativeCoast is revealing inspiring and thought-provoking speakers in and around Savannah. The theme of TEDxCC is “Designing Creativity.” In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

You can also watch the event broadcast live at a viewing party in Savannah. There will be an after-party at downtown restaurant Cha’Bella that everyone can attend.

While some wait for creativity to strike, others just design it themselves. On Friday the 18th, TEDxCreativeCoast will offer Savannah its own blueprint for building creative ideas from the ground up.

TEDx is a part of the popular non-profit TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design), which offers conferences in the real world and videos on their website featuring speakers with creative business ideas. TEDx gives communities the chance to license the program and create their own personalized event based around TED regulations. TEDxCreativeCoast will start at 9 a.m. at Savannah’s Meddin Studio. It features its own theme, “Designing Creativity,” and a program composed mostly of local Savannah speakers. The speakers will present lecture-style, but the event will be interspersed with breaks that allow for more interaction.

They were sick of asking permission.

And even if they had, Matt Hebermehl and “Dr. Z.” James Zdaniewski aren’t the kind of artists to take “no” for an answer. So, on Halloween night—the opening night of the Savannah Film Festival—armed with a 3000 Lumen Projector and DVD player, Hebermehl and Zdaniewski perched atop the State Street parking garage, opposite Savannah College of Art and Design’s Jen Library. After scoping out different spots across the city, Hebermehl decided it was the perfect location for taking their artwork to the streets. They ran an extension cord from the garage’s electrical outlets, through the stairwell, to their equipment. “We [acted like we] were just messing around,” Hebermehl says. “Like we didn’t know what was going to happen.”

Get the star treatment while supporting a good cause! The Creative Coast Alliance and the Savannah Film Commission are rolling out the red carpet for the 82nd Academy Awards this Sunday at Meddin Studios. Dress to impress, stroll the red carpet, sip champagne and strike a pose for South magazine’s photographers as you help raise money for the Backus Children’s Hospital.
The evening will begin with a cocktail hour at 7:30pm, complete with movie snacks, and the awards show will be presented on the big screen thanks to Stage Front productions! Bring a children’s DVD and you’ll be entered to win a locally sponsored Oscar Gift bag. There will be an optional Oscar pool for the main categories, as well as prizes for the best dress. Knowing the ladies of Savannah, it will be quite a competition!

Judging by the throngs of people waiting to catch a glimpse, and the hour and a half line waiting outside Savannah Technical College where he spoke today, the Hostess City lived up to her name.  The presidents used his first visit to Savannah in office to help promote his new energy/jobs housing program. The program promises to help lower housing costs, work with clean energy and create “tens of thousands” of jobs.

The president was also able to tour the local art facility Meddin Studios. President Obama visited the facility to learn about Meddin Studios’ “pitch to post” solution for digital media and the advanced workflow that puts Meddin Studios on the cutting edge of the industry.   Speaking to the press, the President highlighted his interest in the facility as a regional success story, aided in part by federally backed SBA loans, and the addition of such unique infrastructure, which opens doors to a wide array of creative individuals and companies in the Southeast.
