Blog: Run With A Purpose
There is nothing funny about breast cancer, but that doesn’t mean Savannah won’t have a good time raising money for the fight when the 2010 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure kicks off next weekend. As if running through the city on a beautiful spring day for a great cause isn’t enough, the featured guest and speaker this year is Dr. Bertice Berry. Dr. Berry is a world-renowned author, singer and comedienne who will talk about the serious subject of cancer with a pinch of humor and a whole lot of heart.
Dr. Berry earned a PhD from Kent State and taught statistics and sociology at the university level for several years. She noticed that she made a bigger impact when discussing topics like racism and sexism if she used her innate sense of humor and got her audience laughing. It wasn’t long before she left teaching to become an entertainer who educates. She won “Comedian of the Year” four years in a row and has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and 20/20.
