St. Patrick’s healthy Kick-off block party.

Habersham YMCA Fitness-a-thon Fundraiser

Habersham YMCA will hold a Fitness-a-thon for Priceless Gifts Saturday, March 5th, 2011. All scheduled classes will participate in fundraising while we work the body, mind and spirit.

Everyone is welcome, member or non-member. There will be a minimum $5.00 donation fee to take a class. Please spread the word to your family, friends and neighbors. The more participation the better…let’s engage the community!

Schedule of events:
8:00 am – 10:30 am Zumba, Kickbox and Step or…
8:00 am – 9:00 am TRX Suspension Training and then…
9:15 am – 10:15 am Spin you weekend away and then…
10:30 am – 11:30 am Core Pilates or
10:30 am – 11:30 am MVE Chair Pilates

There will be refreshment and healthy snacks. Prizes will be given away. We will provide childcare from 7:45am – noon

Sunsplash Outdoor Fitness Festival

The 2010 Sunsplash Outdoor Fitness Festival will combine a walk, cycle & kayak event all on one day to benefit the American Diabetes Association. A morning of vigorous physical activity for walkers, cyclists and kayak paddlers culminates in a family festival featuring live music, health vendors, outfitters and ends with a healthy feast!

Free Fitness and Wellness Workshop

Come and share with us the “Secret of Wellness.”  Participants will learn basic principles behind developing a health and fitness program. They will be given guidance on establishing fitness goals, safety and injury prevention, exercise and stress management, and how to develop a safe exercise program utilizing five components of fitness. Lessons on nutrition, healthy eating, and weight management are also topics of focus as it relates to health and wellness. The workshop will mix classroom components with hands-on learning to equip participants with the tools and knowledge they need to succeed, so wear comfortable clothing and shoes.

Tybee Throws a Fit

The Low Country is about to get into shape with its biggest fitness events to date. “Tybee Throws a Fit” will be held on July 2nd from 8-11:00 a.m. on Tybee Island Pier. There will also be various demonstrations and fitness activities throughout the island. The event will showcase a range of easy and fun ways to stay in shape including surfing, skating and hula-hooping just to name a few.

Fitness and health are often the primary lines of defense for Fort Stewart’s 3rd Infantry Division combat soldiers. Peak levels of strength and endurance can mean the difference between life and death, success or failure. It’s no surprise then that Sergeants 1st class Jeremy St. Julian and Robert Frankforter take their training very seriously. “Physical fitness is our second highest priority,” said Frankforter. “Second only to training.”

Early every morning, St. Julian and Frankforter motivate and move hundreds of soldiers through rigorous exercise regimens specially designed to keep the world’s toughest troopers in peak physical condition. Luckily for those of us with less fight in us than flab, these two soldiers took a break from their rigorous regimes to let The South in on some if their training sessions’ best exercising secrets. Follow these tips and you’ll be in combat condition in no time.
