23rd Annual Savannah Folk Music Festival

GOOD FOLK!

Event coverage by Shena And The Fashion Rehabber

There was a celebration of music in Ellis Square! The 23rd Annual Savannah Folk Music Festival kicked off on Friday, October 12th. A free to the public concert in the square under perfect weather and a setting sun was just the beginning. At the end of the fountain was a table housing a seemingly endless row of Gretsch Guitars that had attendees bidding silently. The stylized instruments have been painted by local artrist. The auction of acoustic guitars continues until the end of the festival. The event spans the weekend with Saturday’s Youth Songwriting Competition, Blues Workshop and Old Dance to a concert Sunday Oct 14th.

SHENA And The Fashion Rehabber took in the scene with the volunteers for the event, music lovers in Savannah, and the families relaxing by the fountain. Together we enjoyed an evening of duets, acoustic guitar and blissful harmonies.

The President of The Savannah Folk Music Socitey, Chris Desa made opening announcements and started the night with a solo performance set during which he sang a poinent rendetion of “Blowing in the Wind” by Bob Dylan. Other artists who performed include Jim McGaw, Lauren Lapointe, CYNERGY, The Pace Brothers, Alice and Albert Williams.

61st Annual Savannah Greek Festival

Going Greek! Food, Fun, and Family at the 61st Annual Greek Festival

From the door, you are made to feel like family. The 61st Annual Greek Festival is not an event…it is tradition.
Many spoke proudly of having attended the event for many years and not missing one. “What is it that brings you to Greek Fest every year?” I asked everyone. The answer more often than not was “for the food and the community”.

The festival featured a Greek Food Market that only exists when the festival is underway. Jewelry, books, toys, clothes, breads and clothes lined the Bazaar in the rear of the St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church, the venue for the festivities. There was even a ‘drive thru’ to ease the demand of authenic Greek faire.

The attendees were serenaded by a Greek music playing duo from Atlanta called: Grecian

One of the co-chairs for the Greek Festival expressed everyone’s interest in having the popular event more than once a year. WJCL was there to report on the beauty of the first of three days of food, fun and dancing.
