Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society: Night of Champions
The Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society (LDSS) is hosting its second annual Night of Champions tonight, June 9th, at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Savannah. This event helps to recognize the achievements of local Savannahnians with intellectual disabilities as well as the companies that employ them. It is believed that as many as 80% of adults with Down Syndrome are left unemployed because potential employers don’t realize the work ethic and possibilities that these adults possess. The Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society is hoping to not only use this event to recognize the people and companies involved but also to try and encourage and show other local businesses of the potential of these individuals with Down Syndrome. The special guest is celebrity chef and author Jamie Deen who will be this year’s emcee. Admission to this event is $20.

Evening with the Experts
Ah, weddings. Many women have been planning their wedding since childhood; picking out the perfect dress, the perfect location, and, of course, the perfect man! It all seems like such fun, such a fairytale, until you actually have to plan a wedding. Suddenly, what has been the stuff of daydreams for a lifetime quickly turns into a headache-inducing jumble of confusing minutiae. Juggling vendors, contracts, and a world of tiny but crucial details can seem daunting, but brides, take heart!
Donna Von Bruening, of DVB Photographers, has gathered together the top Savannah wedding industry experts to offer brides a wedding-planning experience like no other. Evening With The Experts is a dinner program designed to remove the veil of mystery from planning a wedding by providing education and inspiration directly from the experts, in a fun, sophisticated setting.

Movie Review: So Bad, It’s Good
It’s not great cinema, but it IS cinema.
Those at the Sentient Bean last night had the dubious pleasure of viewing Yeti: The Giant of the 20th Century, one of the most astonishingly bad, hilariously funny movies ever created. I had been forewarned; I thought I knew what I was in for, but believe me when I say that this movie will take you to cinematic lows you never knew existed.
The special effects are mind-blisteringly atrocious, for starters. The blue screen work is so bad that the background is visible through the yeti for much of the movie. At one point a character’s blue jacket suddenly changes to tan, presumably so it would show up against the blue screen. The plot is far too ridiculous to explain, but suffice it to say that the Yeti goes to Toronto and does some major damage, all the while making creepy bedroom eyes at the young female love interest and bellowing like a distressed baby elephant. The best part of the movie is undoubtedly the Yeti’s hair, which can only be described as Don King meets Flock of Seagulls meets Billy Ray Cyrus circa 1992.
