TEDx Cultivates Creativity
While some wait for creativity to strike, others just design it themselves. On Friday the 18th, TEDxCreativeCoast will offer Savannah its own blueprint for building creative ideas from the ground up.
TEDx is a part of the popular non-profit TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design), which offers conferences in the real world and videos on their website featuring speakers with creative business ideas. TEDx gives communities the chance to license the program and create their own personalized event based around TED regulations. TEDxCreativeCoast will start at 9 a.m. at Savannah’s Meddin Studio. It features its own theme, “Designing Creativity,” and a program composed mostly of local Savannah speakers. The speakers will present lecture-style, but the event will be interspersed with breaks that allow for more interaction.

Wine and Dine
Last night Cha Bella hosted its first ever Wine Dinner. Cha Bella with Lambert Bridge wines, presented an amazing five course menu of five star dishes accompanied by wines du jour. A cocktail hour preceeded the excitement filled dinner that started with a glass of 2007 Sauvignon Blanc (Dry Creek Valley), a Walker Farms celery and potato puree along with a Duck rillette and potato tuile, followed by 2006 Chardonnay (Sonoma County) with Maine Lobster gnocchi, baby Vidailia, grilled lettuce and an exquisite meyer lemon butter sauce.
The third course presented a 2007 Viognier (Sonoma County) accompanied by a local organic citrus salad with gorgonzola dolce and tangerine balsamic. The fourth course ushered in a 2005 Limited Selection Cabernet Sauvignon (Sonoma County) with North Carolina scallops, pastured pork belly, king trumpet mushrooms and roasted local carrots.

Homegrown Heroes
Two Savannah eateries are taking organic dining to a whole new level by tapping local farmers to help create the freshest dishes around.
We like to think things are better here in the Lowcountry. Boasting beaches, marshes, pine and maritime forests, Savannah and the Coastal Empire certainly plays host to a slew of scenery to appreciate. Still, it is hard to scrub that provincial habit of looking over your shoulder and wondering, telling and asking about what’s going on in the bigger cities of Dixie. But just because the cities are larger doesn’t mean you have to run off towards sparkling skylines to fix every craving—especially when the craving is of the epicurean sort. After all, what are provinces if not the breadbasket of the cities?
