Buddy Walk Festival

Cost: $12 per person, $40 per family of four
Price includes: t-shirt, food, and festival activities

The fifth annual Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society Buddy Walk Festival will be held to raise awareness during October, which is down syndrome awareness month. More than 300 Buddy Walks will be held throughout the country to raise awareness and money to help support families that have been touched by down syndrome. Last year, more than 6,000 people attended the festival in Forsyth Park and raised $65,000.

The one-mile walk is open to anyone, and requires no special training or shoes. After the walk, the festival will begin at 11 a.m. and include live music, train rides, bouncy rides, carnival games, bake sales and much more. Registration begins at 8 a.m. the morning of the festival.

Savannah Buddy Walk Celebrates 15 Years

On Saturday, Oct. 23, the Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society took over Forsyth Park for its annual Buddy Walk.  The first Savannah Buddy Walk was held in 2006 and had a respectable showing of nearly 1,600 people.  This year there were 3,752 participants.

This Weekend’s Fantastic Fairs & Festivals

Fried Snickers bars, funnel cakes and roasted corn taste best at one place and one place only: the fair. No matter how many places I go, or how many attempts I make on my own, the results just aren’t the same. So when fall sets in and those cravings begin, I know fair season is right around the corner. Being from a small town, the fair is pretty much a big deal. Sitting in traffic for hours due to attendees from seven surrounding counties was the start to what was sure to be a great night. If you’re like me, you still get that giddy, childish feeling when the carnies pour into town and traffic becomes abnormally heavy. In fact, you’ve probably got that feeling right now because fair season is in full swing.
