Ready, Set, Save a Life
It’s rare to find an opportunity to simultaneously nourish the mind, spirit and body. And, I have yet to find a better kind of satisfaction than that which comes from giving to others while also doing something positive for yourself. So, when there’s an event like the Harvest of Hope bicycle ride, where participants ride their bicycles over 140 miles from Augusta to Savannah to raise money for cancer research, it’s easy to see why so many people want to join in the ride or simply just cheer on the road-ready warriors as they broach the finish line (the Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute at Memorial Univeristy Medical Center).
This year’s annual ride is in memory of fellow, local bicycling enthusiast Jay Jaycox. Although the ride is not accepting anymore applications for bicyclists, event organizers encourage residents to support and cheer on the riders as the end their long, long trek in Savannah. They are estimating that the ride will conclude around 5:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. The group will also be accepting donations for cancer research on that day.
