Forrest Gump
7:00 P.M.

The Academy Award winner for Best Picture, Best Director Robert Zemeckis, and Best Actor Tom Hanks, this unlikely story of a slow-witted but good-hearted man somehow at the center of the pivotal events of the 20th century is a funny and heartwarming epic. Hanks plays the title character, a shy Southern boy in love with his childhood best friend (Robin Wright) who finds that his ability to run fast takes him places. The visual effects incorporating Hanks into existing newsreel footage is both funny and impressive, but the heart of the film lies in its sweet love story and in the triumphant performance of Hanks as an unassuming soul who savors the most from his life and times.

Forsyth Farmer’s Market to Host Educational Canning Series

Starting on June 9th, 2012 and occurring the first Saturday of July & August.

In order to learn how to preserve and conserve local, seasonal produce and fresh food items, the educational program is geared to showcase new and traditional methods of home canning, freezing and drying food to extend the lifespan and guarantee more fresh tasting goods over a longer time period.
“With the all the goods our vendors have to offer each Saturday at the market, we wanted to make sure our customers are equipped with ways to enjoy the fresh items over the year. Our mothers and grandmothers extended the lifespan of seasonal produce by canning, drying and cooking- we want to bring these methods back into people’s kitchens and showcase how good these can taste”, stated Ben Baxter, market manager.
All of the featured produce is available at the market for participants to try out their new found skills.
Interested parties can sign up early via email at: forsythfarmersmarket@gmail.com –with the topic line “Food Preservation Series Part #2 ( or #3)”. The program participation is free and will be on a first come base.

The Forsyth Farmers’ Market takes place each Saturday at the South End of Forsyth Park from 9 AM – 1 PM.

The Forsyth Farmers’ Market vendors offer a variety of local goods including seasonal produce, eggs, honey, pastured meat, bread, cheese, mushrooms, fresh herbs, vegetable sauces, preserves, coffee beans, heirloom seeds and potted plants.
