Interior Desires: Fabulous Frames

Maldoror11. Eco-friendly framing- Using a line of moldings made from reclaimed lumber, as well as a collection of mouldings and mats that uses wood from well-managed sustainable forests, Maldoror’s Frameshop creates a custom design that complements any style of art all while being environmentally responsible. The eco-friendly mouldings include: a traditional collection of ornate and gilded moldings; a line of painted salvaged woods, for casual, rustic decor; and an exclusive line of warm, rich, salvaged hardwoods that are customized to accentuate specific pieces of art. Customers can pair any of these frames with fillets, decorative mats and custom glazing (including restoration hand-blown glass) that create a one-of-a-kind design.

2. Frameless Framing- Plexi face mounting is a crisp, sleek, contemporary way to display photos. Art lovers may not recognize it by name, but its been used for signs and graphics for years and has recently gained popularity in the world of fine art photography. The front of the photo is mounted to the reverse of the plexi, adding depth and luminosity to color photographs. At Image is Everything, they’ll print your photo and plexi face mount it for you. The edges are polished—suitable for hanging directly on the wall.master-solutions

3. Period Frame Design and Restoration- Master Solutions specializes in the art of traditional frame building. They start from raw moulding and build upon it using traditional methods of hand carving, gilding and various specialty finishes to create a masterpiece of a frame. They can custom design a frame for a specific work of art, but they also specialize in restoring antique frames and in recreating period frames.

4. Whimsical Frame- Shop SCAD offers a line of brightly colored fabric frames called Puffy Frames. They were designed by Ashley Olson (B.F.A., fibers, 2007) and are now part of the Working Class Studio collection. Fun and whimsical, they are great for framing posters, lightweight mirrors and photos.

5. Architectural Salvage Frames- At Pinch of the Past, framing fanatics can get creative amidst a selection of vintage and antique frames.
