He steps off the elevator outside the Intensive Care Unit. The date is December 23, 2010, just two days before Christmas. He’s going into a situation he knows will be tough. As with most calls, he knows why he’s going but not exactly what he’ll walk into. He’s not a security officer. He’s not a physician. He’s the senior staff chaplain at Savannah’s Memorial University Medical Center. His name is Douglas Westfall, known throughout the hospital simply as Pastor Doug.

A Georgia boy by birth, football legend Shannon Sharpe came from humble beginnings. But his hard work and determination eventually afforded him a spot on his college team and then led him to the NFL. Recently, after being inducted into the hall of fame, he visited his alma mater to give students and Savannahians a little inspiration

For the first-ever greatest kids contest, south asked savannahians to submit photos of their kids, and they did—by the hundreds. Then, still leaving it in the hands of the locals, we let readers choose the winners. The results speak for themselves. It’s official; the South undoubtedly has the cutest kids around.
