Guide to Gearing Up for the JCB Mud Run: Still a Few Spots Left
The countdown has commenced, and with five days left until the JCB Mud Run, are you geared up? This Saturday, get ready for nearly five miles of mud, dirt and water—followed by South Magazine’s Post Race Party! Proceeds from the race will benefit the Lady Bamford Center for Early Childhood Development.
Throughout the race, participants will encounter 10 obstacles throughout the race, including logs, a plunge, and water gauntlets. Get ready to get dirty! See the course map below for a more detailed look at your journey. While it may be too late for heavy training instructions, we have the latest tips for preparing for Race Day.
Before the Race:
If you’re not used to running in wet clothes, we suggest trying it out a few days before the race. You’ll want to wear comfortable and water repellent gear. Hop in the shower and then take a quick run.
For the race, gear up from head to toe. Wear light running shoes. Duct-taping your shoes to keep them from being sucked into the mud is a good idea and there will be a station setup for that at the race Don’t wear goggles or sunglasses; they’ll only get in the way!
REST the day before the event. For the absolute best “results,” double your water intake the day before as well. As for food, focus on eating carbohydrates the day before the race. On the day of the race, eat only what you’re used to, and don’t try anything that you wouldn’t normally eat.
Bring to the race your own food, water, towels, change of clothes, and plastic garbage bag for your muddy clothes. Show up early to get a good position in your heat! Food is provided for the runners, but coolers are encouraged for spectators.
During the Race:
Most importantly, have fun! Keep a good pace throughout the race, and listen to your body.
Post-Race:
Grab a quick photo after the race—you’ll definitely want to see the results of your hard work! There will be a water station for washing off available at the end of the run.
Register online or at Fleet Feet on Waters Avenue before Saturday. There are only a few spots left! Gear up for what’s sure to be a great time, and we’ll see you there!
