Book Signing: Islands Under Fire: The Improbable Quest to Save the Corals of Puerto Rico by Kevin McCarey

Friday, September 21, 2012
4 to 6:30 p.m.
Gutstein Gallery, 201 East Broughton Street
This Friday join Kevin McCarey, Emmy-award winning filmmaker and SCAD film professor, for the signing of his new book, Islands Under Fire: The Improbably Quest to Save the Corals of Puerto Rico.
Originally educated as a marine biologist, McCarey is returning to his roots with this new work of non-fiction detailing the plight of the coral reefs of Puerto Rico and the Spanish Virgin Islands.
His aptitude for storytelling is obvious. With a successful film career under his belt, this is McCarey’s first book and the praise is already flowing in.
“It is flat-out brilliant. I especially love the beauty of the ending. And McCarey’s ability with bringing characters to life is inspiring”
says T.C. Boyle, author of Tortilla Curtain and The Women. Stop by the Gutstein Gallery on Friday to grab a signed copy and chat with the author, then stroll across the street to the free screening of Mission of Mermaids, part of the 2012 Gray’s Reef Ocean Film Festival.
