South’s “Hottest” Topics

We’re on the eve of releasing our newest issue and we’re excited to say the least. With the daily temperatures reaching above 100, it’s appropriate that that our theme has to do with some of the “hottest” things to see and do in the area. Our newest issue will help you find some of the best places to cool down and see some of the hottest people.

The hottest singles contest is an annual event and one of our favorites. Candidates from the Savannah area are voted on by the public over a period of time. Each vote counts towards who are the hottest male and female singles. There really aren’t any losers though, everyone featured is hot and we can prove it once you check out our website or the most recent issue. Our newest issue features photoshoots involving all of the candidates and is the backbone of the issue. Look for yourself and see if you agree with the peoples’ decisions as to who the hottest singles are in Savannah.

Savannah is known for many things: it’s history, architecture, and even the charm showcased by its residents. One thing people don’t think of immediately when they think of Savannah is music. The music scene in Savannah is growing but has been on the map for years including such notables from Savannah as Big Boi (Outkast) and DJ Lord (Public Enemy). We take a look at some of Savannah’s most popular and fastest growing musicians and give you an insight as to who they are and their influence.

Charles Davis is a Georgia native, hailing originally from Macon. He now resides in Guyton, GA and is the proprietor of The Earth Comfort company which specializes in renewable energy and is based in Savannah. His prefabricated home is an example of the renewable energy and efficient ways to build and run a house. His interest in the field began in Washington, D.C. when he saw an example of the efficiency of geothermal heat pumps. He has used his interest and specialization to showcase his work on buildings such as FSU’s Sustainable Energy Science and Engineering Center and UGA’s Marine Extension Service in Brunswick. This begs the question: Is Charles Davis the most efficient man in Georgia?

The housing bubble collapse, which began in 2006, represented an end to business for many people in the real estate market but not all of them. One such group, Judge Realty, started off at an unfortunate time but made the best of it. They began in 2005, right before the the burst, and began to do great business until 2006 when the market began to collapse. That’s when they had to get creative. Judge Realty, as a result, began to diversify their specialities and now count property management as one of their biggest earners with over 200 properties. This goes to show that even someone new to the game can survive the “jungle” of the real estate market.

When you think of art you make think of painting or sculpting but chances are you never would have thought it involved fire and bullets. Matt Stromberg uses just that and more including rocket fuel and explosives. He produces what is called mark making, which are marks that are created through applied texture that create volume. He is a foundations professor at SCAD and recognizes the difficulties are dealing with his tools of the trade. He says his next venture is to use the pressure of the ocean’s forces to manipulate metals.

A Savannah native and the frontman for the rock group Dead Stays Alive, Tony Allen has seen his share of ups and downs. He came up on everyone’s radar when he met Lindsay Lohan in rehab but he’s now trying to move past that. Tony Allen doesn’t want his relationship with Lohan to cloud, and possibly inihibit, the success of his band. His fan base is growing and his music is constantly changing and progressing to new levels. Check out our new issue to read more about Tony Allen and his exploits.

Sports play a big part in the lives of many kids growing up in Savannah. Those sports not only help to develop them physically but also as people. In this issue we are recognizing some of Savannah’s most outstanding coaches and the impact that they have on the youths that they teach everyday. This issue includes both public and private school coaches but all of them have one thing in common; they have all made a huge impact not just on their teams but also on the community.

Everyone has seen the pictures of South Beach with art deco buildings, sunny weather, cool drinks, and beautiful people. It seems that there is never enough time or room to put everything we want into the magazine. The topics we want to talk about, yet don’t have room for, typically make it to our “Extras” section of the magazine. This section is often one of our favorite and the most diverse, combining many different articles and topics into one section. This month’s section includes everything from the Haute Hair Show to the makeover of our in-office bathroom to our Savannah to Atlanta blog. This may be a smaller section but it isn’t one to be missed!
