“Extinction” Earns Film Festival Honors
Last summer, Tybee Island, Oakland Island and Hunting Island transformed into South Africa for Kevin McCarey’s narrative short “Extinction.”

Over the past few months, McCarey’s film has received positive reviews from many film festivals such as the Treasure Coast Film Festival in Port St. Lucie, Florida. “Extinction” is nominated for four awards including Best Short Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography. The winners will be announced on April 30. In addition to the Treasure Coast Film Festival, the Atlanta Film Festival will screen “Extinction” on May 5 at 3pm. The Landmark Midtown Art Cinema will host the event and McCarey will give a 45 minute presentation after the screening on how the film was made.
