Take Over Skim Contest

Tybee Island’s seventh annual skimboarding contest took place this past Saturday making it the largest skim contest on the island yet. The Tybee Island Takeover Event was presented by 17th Street Bros and Skim Invasion (check out skiminvasion.com for global skim events and news). The contest first began seven years ago when Brad Allison and Austin Keen- founders of 17th Street Bros- decided they wanted to see skimboarding grow on Tybee. “With 10 contestants the first year, 19 last year, and 25 this year, it’s turned out to be the biggest event ever!” Allison said.

Tybee local boys took top three in the winner’s bracket. Toby Sanders took first and brother Benji Sanders walked with second, while Leland Lively cleaned up in third. “The contest is great because it shows your skill level, and it brings everyone together!” contestant Stephen Coulson said. 17th Street Bros will be hosting skim camps throughout the summer. For more information, log onto Facebook and search “17th Street Bros”. The camp is geared toward passing on the stoke while teaching the fundamentals of skimboarding.
