Starland Shines with DeSoto Strut

Head to the Starland District this Friday for a free evening of art and music featuring the immense talent of dozens of Savannah artists. Desotorow Gallery will feature two group shows: Gendered, a juried exhibition of art on the themes of gender and identity, and Strut, a showcase of work by local artists.
In addition to the group shows, Starland-based artists Raabstract, Kellie Walker and Matt Hebermehl will open their studios to the public. Open studios are always intriguing for artists and lay-people alike, because they provide an opportunity to see the unique environments that artists create for themselves, as well as glimpses into the process of making art.

Maldoror’s Print Gallery and Frame Shop will display new work, and you can join the talented guys at Gauge Interactive for drinks at their office. With a live painting demonstration with Maddox and friends and music by Insomniacs Entertainment, it promises to be an exciting evening in Starland.

Show organizer Rachel Raab hopes that DeSoto Strut will re-focus Savannah’s attention on the Starland district, as well as bring in new visitors that may be unaware of this up-and-coming part of town. Of Starland, she says, “I think it has a lot of potential.” Though relatively small, this neighborhood boasts some great galleries, shops and restaurants.

Don’t miss this chance to see Starland in all its glory! DeSoto Strut is this Friday, Feb 19th, from 6-10 pm on DeSoto Ave between 40th and 41st.
