How To Savannah Summer-Proof Your Make-Up
Dealing with Savannah heat can feel like a constant battle, but never fear, here are some beauty tips to use as weapons against sun and sweat. These fabulous tips and products provide the best defense against plugged pores, premature skin aging and those pesky panda eyes from melting mascara. Follow these make-up tips and you’ll emerge at the end of the summer with your beauty intact!
Prime Time
The right mineral-make-up primer can act as a moisturizer and a multi-vitamin you feed your skin. Choose one that contains antioxidants –a great weapon against father time. Antioxidants allow for enhanced free radical protection, making it harder for wrinkles to even set in. A primer keeps your pores pretty. It acts as a mattifier to plug pores and keep them from producing oil, and it evens out your skin tone and removes redness. Primers even come with built-in bronzers to make you look beautifully bronzed while actually protecting you from the sun. Personal fave: Colorescience Primer with SPF 20
Okay sun worshippers, it’s time to repent. Eighty percent of aging is reflected in the skin due to excess sun exposure. The number one thing you can do to look younger and take care of your skin is to wear sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher–every single day. The good news is that incorporating sunscreen into your beauty regime is easier than ever. High-integrity mineral make-up product lines (Bare Essentials is NOT on this list- but that is a whole other blog topic.) like Youngblood and Colorescience have built-in SPF so you can look great now AND years from now. Saving pretty face is super simple with powder sunscreens and products with SPF built-in. Look for one’s that are clear, odorless, water-resistant, and blocks UVAs, Bs and infrareds. Looking tan is great- as long as you are spray tanned!
Correct and Protect
Believe it or not even in this humidity your skin still needs to be moisturized. Constant trips from one extreme climate to the next (think of how often you go from the blasting AC indoors…ahhhh…. to the sweltering heat outdoors…uggghhh…) are tough on your skin. A big beauty blunder is the thought that if our skin is oily we should not use a moisturizer. This seems to make perfect sense, but the truth is that often skin appears oily because it is not moisturized enough and it is actually producing excess oil to try to keep the skin hydrated. The trick is to use an oil-free moisturizer or even a hydrating serum that works for your skin type. But who wants to put on a heavy moisturizer in the summer? The solution to this pretty predicament? An Anti-aging oil-free tinted moisturizer with SPF to the rescue! It is the perfect 3-in-one product for correcting and protecting!
Go Tubing
Regular mascara can melt in the heat leaving you looking like a panda (not the look anyone is going for). What to do? The new way of wearing mascara is to use a tube mascara. Benefits: It’s waterproof, smudge proof, slides off easily and leaves no residue, and makes your lashes longer, thicker without clumps! By adding a lash primer you’re conditioning your lashes, which need to be conditioned just like your hair! It is like painting on false eyelashes.
A Mineral Mist can act like hairspray for make-up, setting your make-up for flawless, long-lasting wear! A unique spray serum with Vitamin E and essential oils helps to hydrate and soothe the skin throughout the day. Our favorite mists even have achromatherapy to help you relax and re-center. Achromatherapy employs the power of scent, color and gemstones to help improve your skin and well-being. Refreshing and relaxing any time of day, these inspired sprays are super useful in your makeup routine, beautifully setting your finished look while giving your spirit a balanced burst of energy and tranquility.
Earlier this summer Brett Freedman of Vanity Mark came to Glow MedSpa to teach Savannah women how to keep their brows looking perfect. Check out the video on how to maximize your brow area for any shape!
