Come Together: The John Lennon Educational Tour

An amazing thing rolled into town this week and we’re not speaking of the film festival.  The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus parked itself outside of Jen Library on Tuesday to show Savannah how they are changing the future of students for the better.

The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus is a non-profit mobile audio and HD video recording and production facility that tours the United States year round, stopping at schools to create video projects for students to produce. Within an 11-hour period students are able to write  songs, play music and then direct a music video for it. The amazing part is that every piece of equipment needed is all provided on this state-of-the-art bus.

Ryan L’Esperance, a producer and engineer on the bus, stressed how much young people idolize musicians and dream of one day becoming them.  With the help of the John Lennon Bus, students are figuring out that their dreams are not only tangible, but a lot easier to reach than they might have thought.

Since the Lennon Bus made its first tour in 1998, some of music’s biggest names have pitched in to help. Black Eyed Peas, Carlos Santana, Bob Weir, John Legend, Elton John, Shakira and Mos Def have all participated by holding concerts, helping out with recording sessions and providing guidance to students.

After several days of tours and interviews, the bus has continued on from Savannah down through Florida where they will be stopping at places like Academy of Arts and Minds in Coconut Grove and the Overtown Youth Center in Maimi.  If  you would like to bus to come to your area then check out lennonbus.org
