Atwell’s Art-O-Rama

If you were on W. Broughton Street last Friday night, it’s likely the illuminated projection near Jefferson caught your eye. A collaboration by Matt Hebermehl and “Dr. Z” James Zdaniewski, the video projection was a silent, ever-rotating illustration that gradually changed form. Scrolling and fluid, the artful projection was cast along the side of a building near Atwell’s Art and Frame, where the reception for Art-O-Rama took place.

I attended the reception with artists Anna Fox Ryan and Aaron Thompson, and together we stood outside to view the in-motion art. “It’s like we’re in a real city,” Anna said. It certainly gave the Savannah night a big-city feel, drawing a crowd of people in and around the gallery.

Inside Atwell’s was an engaging collection of multi-media contemporary art. A pair of televisions decked with Hebermehl’s signature, organic illustrations welcomed viewers into the gallery. The multi-artist exhibit involved artists of local and national acclaim, and largely focused on abstract and nonobjective works.

Artists featured include the following: Betsy Cain, Christian Cognazzo, Christine Edwards, Mary Hartman, Matt Hebermehl, Arthur Kouwenhoven, John Olenyik, Preston Orr, Ann Osteen, Milutin Pavlovic, Heath Rich, Christine Sajecki, Zacharia Vicent, Eric Woodell, Danyell Wright and James Zdaniewski.

Art-O-Rama was held in conjunction with Pulse: Art and Technology Festival at the Jepson Center for the Arts.
