4th Annual Ballroom Extravaganza

The Chatham Orthopaedics Associates proudly presented the Kickoff party for the Charity Ballroom Extravaganza on July 14, 2011 from 6 P.M. – 7 P.M. Proceeds from this event benefited a variety of local charities and non-profit organizations such as:

• HUGS: Providing assistance to at-risk and addicted individuals
• Savannah Country Day School Art Alliance: The Arts Alliance advances and enhances the Arts programs at SCDS through member support, involvement and financial contributions.
• Make-a-Wish: Granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.
• Rape Crisis Center of the Coastal Empire: Providing support and information to sexual assault victims
• Savannah Humane Society: Providing compassionate treatment of animals
• The Good Samaritan Clinic: Giving free health care to adults without health insurance
• The Coastal Empire R.O.C.K. Group: A non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse through education.
• Ogeechee Riverkeeper: Protect, preserve and improve the water quality of the Ogeechee River basin
• Kids’ Chance of Georgia: Provides educational scholarships to the children of Georgia.

The main event will happen on September 17th at the Savannah Marriott and will feature local physicians dancing classic ballroom routines in a competition while representing a local charity of their choice. Prizes will be awarded for Best Dressed Male and for Best Dressed Female and of coarse, to the best dancers. The ticket to the event will have a cost of $100 per person but 60% of every ticket purchased will go directly to the charity chosen by the purchaser. The event will also feature dining and dancing.

Specialty Sports

Specialty Sports was set up to accommodate non-traditional sports we felt were not getting the attention they deserved. For example, soccer has been one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S., but until we opened there wasn’t a store focused on soccer. Lacrosse has begun to grow as well and we found the same existed in that sport. Additionally, we now have one of the largest selections for disc golf, volleyball, wrestling, rugby and swimming in the area.

Tybee Lighthouse

Ordered by Gen. James Oglethorpe, governor of the 13th colony, in 1732, the Tybee Island Light Station has been guiding mariners safe entrance into the Savannah River for over 270 years. The Tybee Island Light Station is one of America’s most intact having all of its historic support buildings on its five-acre site. Rebuilt several times the current lightstation displays its 1916 day mark with 178 stairs and a First Order Fresnel lens.
