Dynamic Directors

Planes, trains and beautiful ships probably aren’t the first things most people expect when they visit a museum. But Savannah isn’t your average city and neither are her museums. Whether they arrived by air, land or sea, historical relics abound in this fair city, waiting to relate a long-lost story. Don’t be mistaken, however; there’s still a painting or two hanging around. After all, the unique charm and beauty of the Hostess City makes the perfect backdrop for world-renowned artists to show their works.

Yoga Meets Standup Paddleboarding in Savannah

This month Savannah Power Yoga owner Kate Taylor started offering Standup Paddleboard Yoga Classes, Sunday afternoons on Lake Mayer. She takes a group of 8 to the lake, where they rent paddle boards provided by Paddle Savannah, and after a quick lesson and a few warmup yoga poses, they’re out on the water. They begin getting used to the board by paddling on their knees, and slowly the adventurous few begin to stand up. Within five minutes everyone is up and paddling around like a pro. Taylor lets the group take a small lap around Lake Mayer before she circles them up to take their first downward dog on the water. With great patience, she not only calls out yoga poses, but gives detailed instructions on how to execute them without ending up in the water. Taylor encourages her students to push themselves to their edge. To some their personal edge goes beyond the edge of their board, and they’re treated to a refreshing dip in the lake. The class stays out on the water for around 90 minutes, long enough for a warm up, some invigorating poses, and a relaxing cool down while tethered to the dock.
