Dr. Cohen’s practice is based on the Golden Rule: they strive to treat their patients as they would treat their own family members, in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Some of the most cutting-edge procedures they perform include the integration of digital radiography (X-rays). This procedure has been the most significant advancement in dentistry in recent years. They are proud to provide this for their patients because it reduces radiation exposure by up to 75%. Additionally, they offer to their clients the “Snap-On Smile,” an affordable, non-invasive and completely reversible dental appliance that can easily and painlessly give their patients a beautiful smile. Dr. Cohen is honored to have been named one of America’s Top Dentists for the past several years. He says the most enjoyable part of his job is being able to use his creative abilities to give a person the confidence of having a beautiful smile.
She averages 190 continued education units a year, compared to the 32 that the state requires. Dr. Cooper also has a team approach to dentistry, so the whole team is exposed to the latest techniques in training. Their office is proud to be the first general dental office in Savannah to have the cone beam 3-D scanner. With this technology, they are able to digitally plan for the placement of dental implants and the final location of crowns. This technology equips them to be able to provide a more accurate, less invasive surgery and a quicker recovery.

The person that inspires me the most is Dr. Toni Ganzel an ENT surgeon in Louisville, KY. Dr. Ganzel was my mentor and encouraged me to become a physician. I decided to become a physician because I enjoy helping people. I find medicine fascinating and yet challenging. In my opinion, the best part from my job is helping my patients become successful and achieving their goals in health and wellness. One of the most challenging things form my job is to convince my patients that there is no quick fix and also in trying to help them change behaviors that are killing them. What fascinates me from the human body is it’s ability to regenerate and restore health when given the chance. My philosophy on patient care is to view it as a team approach. I try to educate my patients on the most up to date and progressive advances in health and wellness.

Being one of the few sports medicine fellowship trained physicians in the area, Dr. James W. Wilson is able to provide cutting-edge arthroscopic techniques allowing minimal invasiveness and better recovery. He’s very happy to participate and work in the great city of Savannah, knowing and seeing the people he takes care of every day. He believes this is truly a community-based city, and with that comes accountability and connection.
Dr. Wilson says the most important lifestyle change that would benefit people’s health is daily exercise and weight management. This ensures better health, enjoyment of life and reduction of the daily stress we all have. Fitness may be the best method for lowering healthcare costs more than anything else. The most fulfilling part of his job is caring for people, easing their pain, and getting them back in the game of life or athletics.

At Optim, we are doctor-led and patient-focused. The goal is to put the focus back on the patient and provide the most comprehensive and compassionate orthopedic care in Savannah. Some of the cutting edge procedures that I perform include Needle Aponeurotomy, a minimally invasive procedure for Dupuytren’s contracture, performed under local anesthesia in the outpatient setting. The evolving techniques in arthroscopy of the wrist and elbow allow me to perform many procedures in a minimally invasive manner. I am one of only a few surgeons in the region to offer total elbow replacement and complex revision elbow surgery. My patients have the opportunity to receive subspecialty upper extremity care in a caring, warm environment. We offer the complete care of the upper extremity from diagnosis, imaging and MRI, surgery, and post-op rehabilitation, all in one facility.

Dr. Donald Orthopedics provides the entirety of orthopedic care to children and adolescents in Savannah, the Lowcountry and all of south Georgia. He is the only fellowship trained pediatric orthopedic surgeon in the area, and though he sees mostly children, some of his patients are adults. He frequently, jokingly tells patients that he will see them if they are a child or act like one. The cutting-edge procedures and practices he currently employs include arthroscopic surgery of the joints and spinal cord monitoring for spine surgery. What fascinates him the most about the human body is the healing and regenerative potential of the growing skeleton, and his favorite
part of the job is seeing the relief on the face of a concerned parent when he has helped solve their child’s orthopedic problem.

Symbolizing his approach to medicine and life, Dr. Gifford Lorenz follows the words of psychologist John Watson, “Be kind; everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” He says he enjoys being a physician primarily because he loves helping people, and he decided to go into pulmonology specifically because of inspirational professors and because he gets a great deal of satisfaction from providing relief for people who have all kinds of lung issues ranging from simple to complex, and with different levels of urgency, including acute asthma. He finds his work interesting because he’s faced with the challenge of resolving everything from minor problems to emergencies. An advancement he’s excited about is endobronchial ultrasound, which allows physicians to image and biopsy enlarged lymph nodes and growths next to the trachea and other airways. Thus, diagnosis and staging of tumors may be done without surgery.

Savannah OB/GYN Specialists has been delivering personalized and compassionate healthcare to women in the Savannah area for nearly 20 years. We stay on top of the latest research, techniques, treatments and are committed to providing high quality, up-to-date obstetrical and gyn care. We offer alternatives to surgery, as well as having the technical skills to handle the toughest surgical problems with minimally invasive techniques. These advances in surgical techniques and equipment are giving women more options to consider when it comes to their healthcare. The physicians at Savannah OB/GYN Specialists routinely perform surgeries without the need for large incisions into the abdominal wall and therefore, most often, patients can go home on the day of the surgery or the next day and recover to full activity in a fraction of the time compared to the “old-fashioned surgery your mother had.” 99% of hysterectomies performed by us are laparoscopic.

Dr. Louis Horn’s personal motto is: Excellence at all times for every patient. He says the most challenging part of his job is recognizing that medicine is a science and also an art, meaning that what works for one patient may not work for another. He believes his practice is important to the Savannah medical community because there is always a well-trained, well-intentioned and highly-skilled specialist available at all times. Some of the cutting edge procedures that the practice features include dynamic spinal stabilization, spinal disc replacement, and minimally invasive approaches to the spine. Dr. Horn’s favorite part of the job is getting to interact on a daily basis with the whole gamut of humanity. He adds that he finds medicine and the human body interesting because of its complexity and balance, emphasizing that nothing manmade can compare to the functional architecture of even a single nerve cell.

SouthCoast Medical Group Department of Primary Care combines the convenience and technical sophistication of being in a large multi-specialty group with the one-on-one care of solo practitioners who will take the time to listen and address the needs of each patient. Some of the cutting-edge technology they use includes the use of Electronic Medical Records and E-scribe prescription capabilities. They see and treat a majority of chronic health problems such as hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol and heart disease that are either directly caused or adversely affected by obesity. This can be prevented and treated by avoiding unhealthy foods and eating smaller portions at each meal, combined with regular daily exercise.
